Having just returned from our track event at Val de Vienne near Poitiers in France, we can say with some confidence just how good the latest BMW S 1000 RR is on both road and track (our image features customer Edd on his own RR looking particularly stylish). Having lived with all the generations of this bike up to the exotic HP4 Race, we feel that BMW have smashed it out of the park with this one. Smooth power delivery that works from low-down mid-corner grunt to ballistic top-end thanks to the clever Shift Cam system swapping cam lobe profiles depending on load, is thrilling to say the least. It doesn’t end there though; the gearshift assist is so precise, the electronics are so well executed and the brakes so powerful that this bike wants for nothing straight out of the crate. All the information you need is delivered in beautiful clarity via the colour TFT display.
