We must congratulate BMW Motorrad for the new R 12 S as it has certainly caught our attention. If you are going to plunder your rich history of motorcycle design to celebrate, then the R 90 S is as good a place as any to linger. In 1973, BMW Motorrad, keen to lift its image to new sportier heights, introduced the R 90 S to change people’s perception of the Brand. It certainly succeeded and highlights included winning (and taking second place at) the inaugural AMA Superbike Championship race at Daytona in 1976.

The whole point of the BMW R 12 nineT is that it becomes the starting point to make your own statement. Not exactly a blank canvas, but it’s adaptable to create some amazing designs, from BMW’s Paris Dakar inspired Lac Rose concept to our own track focused incarnation with carbon wheels, slick tyres and full Ohlins suspension, this is a bike that can morph into so many different things. BMW Motorrad are showing us the way with their R 12 S.

Sporting distinctive Lava Orange paintwork that echos the original Daytona Orange of the R 90 S and milled Option 719 components, this R 12 S exudes quality and desirability. Power comes from the classic 110hp BMW air/oil cooled boxer engine, but everything else is right up-to-date with ABS Pro, sophisticated traction control and smooth and responsive throttle control.
