BMW Motorrad is celebrating another successful year as three of its models have won 2015 MCN Awards. The annual MCN Awards are held by the UK’s biggest motorcycle publication and recognise outstanding achievements, innovations and products. The winners are chosen by a panel of expert riders and road testers.

• 2015 Best Adventure Sport – BMW S 1000 XR
• 2015 Best Naked – BMW R 1200 R
• 2015 Best Tourer – BMW R 1200 RT

Best Adventure Sport: BMW S 1000 XR.

The BMW S 1000 XR was launched in May 2015 to critical acclaim and praise from media worldwide. Combining the supersports technology and four-cylinder engine from the S 1000 RR with the adventure bike comfort and practicality from the GS range, the XR became the best-selling model in MCN’s new Adventure Sport class.

MCN Awards judges said: “We love the S 1000 XR. It’s an intoxicating mixture of speed, comfort, sleek styling and raw, adrenaline-fuelled fun. It’s right up there as one of the best BMWs ever.”

Best Naked: BMW R 1200 R.

The BMW R 1200 R always offered a great package to riders, with the air-cooled Boxer engine at the heart of a capable, stylish roadster motorcycle. With the 2015 model update, the R 1200 R has been propelled to the top of the class. Owners now get to experience the new 125hp Boxer motor, class-leading electronics packages including Gear Shift Assist Pro, semi-active suspension and Dynamic Traction Control, all wrapped up in modern styling inspired by the Concept Roadster.

MCN Awards judges said: “BMW has subtly sprinkled the R 1200 R with 21st century technology to enhance the riding experience. It’s still simple, wind in the hair biking, but now it has a lovely extra edge – and an MCN Award to boot.”

Best Tourer: BMW R 1200 RT.

BMW Motorrad dominates the touring sector in the UK, with one in every two new touring motorcycles sold bearing the BMW roundel – and the R 1200 RT is largely the reason why. Relaunched in 2014 with the all-new liquid-cooled Boxer motor, the R 1200 RT won last year’s MCN Award for Best Tourer and has retained the trophy for 2015. This is the sixth year that the RT has been the nation’s best-selling touring motorcycle.

MCN Awards judges said: “BMW Motorrad’s current-generation R 1200 RT is on another level, compared to its rivals, which is why we awarded it our best tourer of 2014 and again for 2015. If there was any bike we’d want to do big, continental miles on, the R 1200 RT is it.”
