The highly anticipated BMW F 450 GS was unveiled in full production guise earlier in the week at the EICMA show in Milan with customer deliveries for Bahnstormer anticipated from April 2026.

The new model embodies everything you would expect from a GS. It’s the bike that has the versatility to do anything on, just like its other family members, with the same cutting edge technology, playful handling and sporty performance. The F 450 GS is powered by a 420cc 135 degree offset twin, producing an A2 compliant 48hp and returning a frugal 74mpg to get a useful 210 mile range from its 14 litre tank. The new 135 degree offset engine design brings character and fun whilst not sacrificing smoothness.

One of the many attractions is the low 178kg weight (with fuel) and 845mm seat height as standard or 830mm with the optional low seat and 865mm with the high seat. Wheel sizes are the same as the R 1300 GS at 19″ front and 17″ rear and cast wheels are standard with spoked wheels available as an accessory.

A first on a BMW is the Easy Ride Clutch (standard on the Trophy), which closes centrifugally when the engine speed is above idle. You can operate the bike from standstill and through the gears without the clutch lever when used in combination with the familiar Shift Assistant Pro. Engine braking is maintained on off-road descents but importantly, the ERC system works to enhance the manual clutch operation, which can override whenever you need it, say to lift the front wheel. It’s so easy to use in stop/start traffic, you don’t have to worry about stalling, and it’s less tiring. We’ve experienced similar designs in the off-road world to great effect.

We also have various modes with Riding Modes Pro of ‘Rain’, ‘Road’ and ‘Dynamic’ plus ‘Enduro Pro’, which allows the rear ABS to disengaged for off-road use. KYB adjustable upside-down forks (Compression and Rebound on the Sport and Trophy) and rear shock plus single 310mm 4-piston Brembo brake providing stopping control at the front.
